A kashmiri bul-bul (= nightingale) --an ancestor of the more widely known sitar-- used in so called sufiana music, where it is played by the singer of religious songs with the help of a plectrum.
This particular instrument belonged to late Subir Sahib, a blind Kashmiri bard who passed away in 1980.

Says Kabir:
How wondorously this lyre is wrought!
When its strings are rightly strung, it maddens the heart: but when the keys are broken and the strings are loosened, none regard it more.
